Orthodontic Care for NRIs Visiting Mumbai
Visiting Mumbai from overseas? Plan an orthodontic consultation around your trip. Start the conversation before you travel so the clinic can advise what information may help and what can realistically be assessed during your stay.
Plan your Mumbai consultationBefore you travel
Arrange your consultation ahead of time
Contact Dr. Nilofer M Currawalla’s clinic with your expected dates in Mumbai, where you are travelling from, and whether you are seeking a first assessment, a second opinion, or advice about ongoing orthodontic treatment. The team can guide you on appointment availability and whether any existing records may be useful.
Planning note: Information shared before travel can help prepare for a visit, but it cannot replace an in-person orthodontic examination or confirm treatment suitability.
Prepare in advance
What records should I send?
If you already have them, ask the clinic which of these items would help the initial discussion:
Previous dental records
Recent dental or orthodontic summaries, treatment plans, and any relevant notes from your current dentist or orthodontist.
Images or scans you already have
Existing dental X-rays, digital scans, or clear photographs may help with preparation. Do not arrange new X-rays just for an enquiry unless the clinic advises you to.
Your travel and treatment context
Your Mumbai dates, current appliance or aligner stage, main concerns, and any treatment already underway abroad.
Please ask the clinic how to share medical or dental records securely before sending them. Bring original records or access to digital files to your appointment when possible.
During a short Mumbai visit
What may fit into one appointment?
Depending on appointment time and your needs, an initial visit may include a clinical orthodontic assessment, photographs or a digital scan when indicated, and a discussion of possible options such as braces or clear aligners. If you are seeking a second opinion, bring your existing plan and records.
The clinician will explain what additional records, appointments, or investigations are needed. A short visit can begin an assessment, but it may not be enough to complete diagnosis, start treatment, or address every concern. The next steps depend on your examination and records.
Clear aligners and care abroad
Can Invisalign treatment be coordinated if I live overseas?
Possibly, but it depends on your diagnosis, treatment needs, travel pattern, and whether the required clinical reviews can be arranged. Discuss your plans to return overseas before treatment begins. Dr. Nilofer can explain whether clear aligners are suitable and what in-person reviews your case may require.
Follow-ups need an individual plan
There is no single appointment interval for every patient. The expected review schedule depends on the treatment plan and how your teeth respond. Ask for a case-specific estimate before committing to treatment around travel.
Remote check-ins have limits
Remote communication may support follow-up when clinically appropriate, but it cannot replace examinations or in-person care when these are needed. Some stages may require a visit to assess progress, appliance fit, or dental health.
Continuity of care
Already seeing an orthodontist abroad?
Tell the clinic before starting or changing treatment. If another orthodontist will continue your care, discuss responsibilities, timing, and how progress will be monitored. With your consent, you can ask whether relevant records or a treatment summary can be shared with your overseas orthodontist and what format they need.
Do not change aligner stages or treatment instructions based only on travel dates; follow the instructions of the clinician responsible for your care.
Common questions
Questions from overseas patients
Can I have an Invisalign consultation during an India visit?
You can request an orthodontic consultation during your Mumbai visit. The clinician will assess your teeth and bite, review any useful records, and discuss whether clear aligners may be appropriate. Treatment suitability is confirmed only after the necessary clinical assessment.
Can treatment be completed during a short trip?
Orthodontic treatment generally involves planned tooth movement and reviews over time. A short trip may allow an assessment or an agreed treatment step, but it should not be assumed that treatment can be completed in one visit.
How often will I need to return?
The schedule varies with the case and treatment. Ask for an estimated, case-specific review plan at your assessment. Some reviews require an in-person visit, even when other communication can happen remotely.
Can you coordinate with my orthodontist overseas?
Raise this before treatment begins. With your consent, the clinic can discuss what records or treatment information may be useful to share, subject to the care plan and practical arrangements.
