The comparison gets oversimplified online. Search “Invisalign vs braces” and you’ll find a hundred articles arguing one is simply better than the other. In practice, it’s rarely that clean.
What actually matters
Case selection is the biggest factor. Complex bite corrections, significant crowding, or jaw alignment issues often still call for traditional braces, which give an orthodontist more direct control over tooth movement. Mild to moderate crowding or spacing, on the other hand, is often an excellent fit for Invisalign.
The second factor is monitoring. Aligner treatment can drift off course if it isn’t checked and adjusted regularly — this is where a lot of at-home or mail-order aligner services fall short. In-person review at each stage catches small issues before they become bigger ones.
Lifestyle fit
Aligners are removable, which is convenient for eating and cleaning, but that same flexibility means results depend on discipline — 20–22 hours a day, every day. Fixed braces work continuously regardless of compliance.
Neither option is universally “better.” The right one is the one matched to your bite, your timeline, and how closely we can monitor the treatment together.
